Eighteen Software was founded in 1995 in Ashland, Oregon, a small town located in the foothills of the Siskiyou mountains.
The objective of the company is the production of high quality software for the Earth Sciences. Since 2000, Eighteen
Software has its headquarters in Portland, OR.
The first software program to be produced by Eighteen Software was
Mineral Venture, whose first version came out in 1996. This is a highly sophisticated
simulation program, designed for the teaching of economic geology in universities. Constantly modified and improved upon,
Mineral Venture is being used in institutions all over the United States and on four continents. One year later, a
simplified version of Mineral Venture, this time dedicated to high school students, was offered. This is
DeepEarth, whose first version came out in 1997.
In 2002, Eighteen Software tested an application devised for the geomorphologist that was able to display Digital Elevation
Models in stereoscopy with no special equipment and on any computer. This new tool proved to be so powerful that two
versions using the same algorithm were derived from it. The first version,
HawkEye, is dedicated to the teaching of Earth Sciences at all levels. HawkEye is an
interactive multimedia educational software, which covers most areas in Earth Science Contents Standards: plate tectonics,
evidence of plate tectonics, erosion, sedimentation, volcanism, consequences of global warming, and much more. HawkEye is
recognized by the California Learning Resource Network. The second version,
TopoMorpher, is dedicated to the engineering geologist, the geomorphologist, and the
hydrogeologist.
Eighteen Software, LLC is constantly developing new
educational and professional software, utilizing innovative approaches. Be
